The 14th round of the 2011 Formula 1 series is this coming weekend, and Vettel and Red Bull have basically checked out as the season's champions. The real race now is who will be second in the drivers' championship.
Just 14 points separate Fernando Alonso in second and Lewis Hamilton in fifth. Between them are Jenson Button in third and Mark Webber in fourth who both have 167 points.
The Singapore Grand Prix is a fairly young race in the Formula 1 season. It is also the only night race on the calendar. Starting in 2008, the Singapore GP has only been won be two drivers. Fernando Alonso won in 2008 and 2010, and Lewis Hamilton won in 2009. Kimi Raikkonen still holds the overall lap record from 2008.
Alonso lead every lap from pole last year so it certainly looks like Alonso has a good grasp of the track and might hang on to second place. Although, Hamilton clearly has a good understanding of the Singapore circuit. It could be a great race between these two.
The 23-corner track is a little over 5km long, and there will be 61 laps in this year's race.Singapore inaugurates the Asian section of the Forumla 1 season. After Singapore comes Japan, Korea and India.
We will cover any news between now and the race, and be sure to come back here on Saturday for coverage of qualifying.
