Toyota has announced they will be unveiling the all-new Prius Plug-in Hybrid at next month’s 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mating the company’s patented Hybrid Synergy Drive platform with its newly developed plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology, Toyota say that the new Prius will be able to achieve an astounding fuel efficiency of just 2.2 l/100 km with CO2 emissions at just 49 g/km. This improvement of on the current Prius’ 3.9 l/100 km is thanks to a newly designed and compacted lithium-ion battery which will allow the Plug-in to be driven further in fully-electric mode than the standard Prius.
The new battery will also reportedly be fully-chargeable in around 90 minutes an allow for a total range of roughly 764 km.
It is reported that the 2012 Prius Plug-in Hybrid will go on sale internationally in the first half of next year.
