Alonso Fastest in Wet First Day of F1 Testing at Mugello

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was fastest on track during a wet first day of mid-season Formula 1 testing at Mugello. 

This first day of test is probably not indicative of how the teams' changes will affect their cars. First, the session started wet and had a drying track during the afternoon meaning drivers could not put their fastest laps down. Second, the testing session lasts until Thursday and most of the teams used today to put down a baseline for changes. It might be Thursday or even the next race at Catalunya to know how the teams' changes affected their cars. 

The second part of the day was delayed dut to heavy rain, and several teams skipped the second session to save tires. 

That being said, Alonso was the fastest man on track today by over a second. Mark Webber and Jean-Eric Vergne were second and third fastest, respectively. HRT made the decision not to take part in this testing session because it is currently in the middle of moving its headquarters to Madrid.
