Another pole for Vettel in Canada

Sebastian Vettel finished ahead of the Ferrari's of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to secure the pole position for tomorrow's Canadian Grand Prix.

With the time of 1m13.014s the German conquered his sixth pole position of the season in seven races and the 21st of his career.

In a surprising good effort by Alonso and Massa, Ferrari was the only team who threatened Vettel's leadership. Alonso will be sharing the first lane with Vettel while Massa will be joined in the second lane by Mark Webber.

They were seen as favourites ahead of the weekend, but both McLarens failed to perform during qualifying, with last year's winner Lewis Hamilton finishing in fifth and Button in seventh behind Nico Rosberg. The other Mercedes from Schumacher finished in eighth.

The top ten was completed by both Renault's which made their way into Q3. Nick Heidfeld was quicker than his team-mate Petrov on the last period of qualifying.

In 11th was Paul di Resta who once again outpaced his team-mate Adrian Sutil who only managed 14th. Pastor Maldonado also outpaced his more experienced colleague. Maldonado was 12th, while Barrichello only managed 16th. The Venezuelan was ahead of Sauber's Kobayashi and Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi.

Replacing unrecovered Sergio Pérez, Pedro de la Rosa put up a good performance making it to Q2 and finished in 17th, within 0.3s of his team-mate Kobayashi.

Jaime Alguersuari had yet another disappointing qualifying. The Spaniard only managed to be the 18th fastest in Q1 and was the first driver to be cut out of Q2. A late effort from Kamui Kobayashi took the Spaniard out of Q2, who faced brakes and grip problems.
