After long months of wait and many teasers from the German brand, Audi has unveiled its new compact class model: the A1. The new Audi A1 is set to be launched officially at the Geneva Motor Show and should go on sale later this summer. The four rings brand says that the chassis and the engines of the A1 will make it the sportiest car in the segment.
Aiming at young customers the A1 was created thinking on the urban environment. With compact dimensions (3.95 meters long, 1.74 meters wide and 1.42 meters tall) it offers a high degree of everyday utility.
The A1 is the first premium automobile in the small compacts class and comes with a unique and modern design. The side line with the distinctive roof arch, the coupe-like C-pillars, the large wheel wells and the front end with the typical single-frame grille are styling features that place the A1 in the Audi family.
The compact model from Audi will be powered by four four-cylinder engines, with the two TDI and two TFSI gasoline engines producing between 86 hp and 122 hp. The downsizing principle is used in every single engine, as they substitute turbocharging for displacement and draw their fuel through direct injection units.
As for fuel consumption the engines show a good economy with standard cycle values between 3.8 and 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers. In addition, the 1.6 TDI with 66 kW (90 hp) and manual transmission emits only 99 g of CO2 per kilometer. Equipped with an automatic start-stop system, all the engines feature a recuperation system that allows them to recover energy during braking.
Coming to sale later this summer, the standard version of the new Audi A1 will be priced at around 16.000 euros.
