Audi A3 Cabrio Begins Production in Germany

A3 CabrioletAudi A3 Cabriolet 1.4 TFS...Germany, 2014 > present has entered production in Györ, Hungary, but it will not be on sale across Europe until spring 2014. However, it will be available in some markets, like Germany, sooner than that.

The A3 Cabriolet has a platform and mechanicals identical to the standard car and is able to seat four passengers. It features an electrically folding fabric top with glass rear window and is stretched over a magnesium and steel frame. It opens and closes in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h (31mph) and folds in three layers into a tray in the rear. Cargo capacity is the same with the top up or down at 287 liters (10.14 cubic feet).  A wind deflector comes standard with the Ambiente trim. For added safety, there are two plates in the body that deploy during a rollover. The engine range for the A3 Cabriolet consists of the 138hp (140ps) 1.4 TSI, 177hp (180ps) 1.8 TSI and 148hp (150ps) 2.0 TDI. Later, Audi says that it will add a 109hp (110ps) 1.6 TDI and 296hp (300ps) 2.0 TFSI that will be exclusive to the S3 Cabriolet, which goes on sale later in 2014. All of the engines have stop/start, and Quattro will be an option later on.

The A3 Cabriolet with the 1.4 TSI starts at €31,700, and prices for the other engines have not been announced yet.

The car is made from start to finish on the Audi Hungaria campus.
