Audi has unveiled its renewed flagship executive class model: the Audi A6. Set to make its debut in early 2011 the new A6 presented with a sedan body has a light body, sporty chassis and features a wide range of innovative solutions in every area of technology. The new A6 generation will be available with a range of engines and drivetrains, which include a soon-to-be-available A6 hybrid as a highlight in the lineup.
A considerable part of the A6’s body is made of aluminum and high-tech steels, with the car becoming lighter, stiffer and safer at the same time. In order to reduce the noise inside the executive car state-of-the-art design methods and materials have been used. Thanks to the precision tunning of all components and systematic hydraulic damping in the axle and drivetrain bearings, the new A6 is expected to offer excellent vibrational comfort.
In terms of design the new A6 gets inspiration from the new A8. With 4.92 meters (16.14 ft) long and 1.87 meters (6.14 ft) wide and 1.46 meters (4.79 ft) high, the A6 features sporty proportions that aren’t found in its segment. The A6 is the owner of a dynamic overall appearance that is given to it by the long engine hood, the low, sweeping roofline and the prominent lines on the flanks.
The new Audi A6 will be offered with a choice between five powerful, highly efficient engines: two gasoline engines and three TDI units. Power output delivered by these engines will start at 130 kW (177 hp) and goes up to 220 kW (300 hp). All the engines will be fitted with technologies of the brand’s modular efficiency platform, such as the start-stop system, the energy recovery system, and the innovative thermal management concept.
In terms of fuel consumption, Audi managed to bring it down by up to 19 percent throughout the entire line, in comparison to the previous A6 generation.
According to Audi, its most powerful unit in the range, the 2.0 TDI, fitted with a manual transmission will deliver fuel consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 km, representing CO2 emissions of 129 g/km.
At a later date, Audi will also debut a hybrid version of the A6. With a power output of 180 kW (245 hp), its 2.0 TFSI plus electric motor is expected to achieve efficient and sporty acceleration with an average fuel consumption of only 6.2 liters per 100 km.
The engine lineup will be possible to mate with a choice between three different transmissions, depending on the engine version. This choice includes a manual six-speed transmission, the continuously variable multitronic, and the brand-new, sporty S tronic.
