BMW Group Posts Highest Vehicle Sales Ever

“2012 was a very successful year for us. The BMW Group achieved its best ever sales result for the second year in a row and expanded its lead in the premium segment. Our success can be attributed to our attractive model portfolio, the strength of our premium brands, as well as a strategy of balanced sales across all continents,” said Ian Robertson, head of sales and marketing at BMW.

has been a major success as well. Sales for it were up 28.6% over last year to 226,829 cars. 

Mini also had record sales in 2012 with 301,526 cars sold, up 5.8%. The US and UK are the largest markets for Mini with 66,123 and 50,367 sales respectively. 

Rolls-Royce also has record sales with 3,575 cars cold. It is the third consecutive year that it has had record sales. According to the brand, it has the best selling car that costs more than €200,000.

BMW Motorrad sales bumped up 2% to 104,286 bikes, and Husqvarna had a good year with a 15.8% sales with 10,751 motorcycles sold. 

By region, Europe is still BMW's major market. It sold 864,812 cars there, which is 0.8% better than last year, and had record sales in the UK with 174,215 cars sold, up 4.3%. Russia had the largest sales gain in the market with a 33.1% gain with 40,144 cars sold. 

Asia has taken over as the second largest BMW market. Sales increased by 31.6% to 491,512 cars. China was responsible for 326,444 of these sales, a 40.4% increase. South Korea, the Middle East and Japan all had double digit sales increases as well. 

The Americas is BMW third largest major market. Sales were up 11.9% to 424,379 cars. The United States took 347,583 of those sales, which is a 13.8% increase.
