for the police.

The 3 Series Touring police car will not be available for regional and federal German police to purchase until September, but the vehicle has been completed and will get its premiere at the Leipzig show. The car is based on the newest, fifth generation 3 Series and offers more interior space than the previous generation. It has extra LED lights in the rear for identification. The cars not come with BMW iDrive as standard.

The X3 carries the same options as the 3 Series Touring like with warning lights and LED identification.

that complies with VR7 armor standards for the entire vehicle and VR9 for some areas. However, none of the armor is visible to the naked eye. The VR7 standard means that the car can take 3 rounds from a 5.56 x 45mm or 7.62 x 51mm bullet in a 120mm triangle from 10m away. These are the types of bullets fired by an AK-47 or M16. VR9 means that certain areas of the car can also take 3 rounds from an armor piercing 7.62 x 51mm bullet in a 120mm triangle from 10m away. It can also withstand a fragmentation grenade from 10m away.

that complies with the VR4 armor standard. This is the lowest armor standard and can withstand three .357 magnum or .44 magnum rounds in a 120mm triangle from 10m away.

Finally, BMW will show the concept for an i3 for police use. BMW thinks that it would appeal to security patrolling a set area like airports or harbors. It is a zero-emissions vehicle that would just need to be recharged.
