BMX xDrive for the 5 Series Gran Turismo and 740d

BMW will be adding to the 5 Series Gran Turismo engine lineup its xDrive all-wheel-drive technology. The German brand will be further enlarging its range of all-wheel-drive models in autumn 2010 with the launch of the BMW 740d xDrive.

The first two versions that will enlarge the all-wheel-drive lineup will come in June. The BMW 530d xDrive Gran Turismo and the BMW 550i xDrive Gran Turismo will be ensuring the appropriate distribution of drive power front-to-rear in every situation. The 5 Series Gran Turismo lineup with xDrive will be completed in September with the 535d xDrive Gran Turismo and the BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo arriving to the markets.

The BMW 550i xDrive Gran Turismo will be making its debut at Auto China Beijing 2010. Powered by a V8 BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and High Precision Injection it has a 4.4 litre displacement with an output of 407 hp, at 6.400 rpm and a maximum torque of 600 Nm between 1.750 and 4.500 rpm. Thanks to its power combined to the BMW xDrive technology the 550i xDrive Gran Turismo accelerates up to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 (electronically controlled). This version of the Gran Turismo is the first model that combines the xDrive technology with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The straight-six 3.0-litre BMW 530d xDrive Gran Turismo is the representation of the latest state-of-the-art in BMW engine development. The engine features an all-aluminium crankcase with its turbocharger variable intake geometry delivering more power and performance. It is fitted with the latest generation of piezo-injectors which enables a maximum power output of 245 hp at 4.000 rpm and torque of 540 Nm at 1.750 rpm. In terms of speed the BMW 530d xDrive Gran Turismo can reach a top speed of 235 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. As for its efficency, this version has an average fuel consumption of 6.9 litres/100 km, which represents 183 g/km of CO2 emissions.

With the BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and common rail direct fuel injection the BMW 535d xDrive Gran Turismo is the second representative of the new generation of straight-six BMW diesel engines. It produces a maximum power of 300 hp with the torque fixing at 600 Nm between 1.500 and 2.500 rpm.

Finally the BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo straight-six gasoline engine completes the range. Fitted with turbocharging, High Precision Injection and variable VALVETRONIC valve management it has an increased response to the gas pedal. Delivering a power output of 306 hp at 5.800 rpm the 3.0-litre engine has a peak torque of 400 Nm, secured between 1.200 and 5.000 rpm.

Also arriving in September will be the BMW 740d xDrive that will join the top-of-the-range BMW 750i xDrive and BMW 750Li xDrive in the 7 Series range. Equipped with the BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology as well as common-rail direct fuel injection with its piezo-injectors this version will produce a maximum output of 306 hp and torque of 600 Nm, maintained between 1.500 and 2.500 rpm.
