Cadillac has been fighting its image as a car for pimps and octogenarians for the last decade with the avante garde styling of the CTS and SRX. It has finally decided to take that design direction deeper into its model line-up. Cadillac announced today that it will launch a compact sedan and a large luxury sedan next year.
The compact sedan, called the ATS, is meant by Cadillac to compete with the BMW 3-series and Audi A4. It released a single teaser image of what the new model will look like.
What this means for the CTS, which currently competes with the 3-series, is still unknown.
The luxury sedan, called the XTS, will be based on the XTS Platinum Concept from 2010 (see pictures of the concept in the slide show above) and will be available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
The XTS concept was powered by Cadillac's 3.7 liter V6 in conjunction with a plug-in hybrid electric motor. Cadillac did not mention if the production car will also use this technology.
