Finding out about traffic jams has gotten easier with GPS traffic monitoring, but what about other driving emergencies, like icy bridges? Daimler has developed the technology to beam emergency information directly to its cars.
The system allows the traffic system to beam messages directly to cars and then those cars to send the messages out further.
The Car-to-X communication system allows messages to be relayed to cars and between them. Starting in Spring 2012, Daimler will be testing 120 cars in the Rhein-Main area. The system is part of the Safe Intelligent Mobility - test field Germany - program in Germany. The SIM program is a joint project among German automakers and partsmakers and the German Ministries of Economics and Technology, Education and Research, Transport, Building and Urban affairs. Daimler is the largest single funder of the Car-to-X system.
