A lot of bad news has come from the Nürburgring in the past year. The track had to declare bankruptcy and is now being run by government appointed liquidators until the track can be sold. Since then good news has trickled from the track. The liquidators and the ADAC motor club have agreed to hold the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, VLN Series, GT Masters and Truck Grand Prix for 2013. The Rock am Ring music festival was guarantted a few months ago as well. The lquidators have still found no buyer for the track.
Scheduling both the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring and Rock am Ring are a major success for a track is such fragile financial condition. They are the track's two biggest events, and each bring over 100,000 visitors to the 'Ring. While the VLN, GT Masters and Truck Grand Prix are smaller; they still bring attendants to the track and cost relatively little to organize.
The last remaining major event at the Nürburgring that is not yet scheduled is the Formula 1 race. The track no longer has backing from the state government, and it is unclear whether the track makes enough money on its own to fund the race.
Bernie Ecclestone has said that he will pay for the race and take all of the proceeds if necessary next year. Beyond that the event's future is very much in question. When still state funded, Formula 1 races at the Nürburgring had been guaranteed until 2016.
The DTM race at the Nürburgring has also not yet been guaranteed for next year.
