Fiat is launching a new 500 model project to celebrate the recent 500,000 units built milestone, just after 31 months since the its launch. The project, set to take off on 3 May will be to create a special showcar that will be named “Fiat 500 Thousandth” with the contributions of fans of the Fiat 500 model. According to Fiat “the body of the car will be entirely covered by 1500 photos displaying the faces of 500 owners, celebrities and fans who have contributed in different ways to the car's extraordinary success.”
To have their face on the show car, people will have to book their spot by registering onto www.fiat500.com and using the special application that shows a plan view of the Fiat 500. After the registration is completed they will be able to book one of the free spaces by sending photo. The Italian brand has reserved 70% of the places to Fiat 500 owners.
After completing the booking stage the showcar will be ready in three weeks and become a feature in forthcoming events and international motor shows. By creating the first “collective car” Fiat will continue to involve customers with the model, a work that started in the beginning of the design developments in 2006. In fact the creation of the modern version of the 500 model took in consideration the scores of 500 enthusiasts worldwide which said what they wanted from the future car through the project “500 wants you”. With the suggestions getting to Fiat’s designers and engineers, which tried to turn the expectations to reality, the Fiat 500 can be considered ““a car created by the people, with the people's ideas”.
Nowadays 120.000 active users make part of the fiat500.com community, which has users from 206 different countries. More than 30 online activities are available in the Fiat 500 website that has been browsed nearly 240 million times.
