"This start of production marks a further milestone in our Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy. The A-Class represents our offensive in the compact segment. And there is more to come: The compact SUV will be the third model we will build here in Rastatt," said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Mercedes has invested about €1.2 billion in Restatt in the last few years to build the new compact cars. The upgrades include new tooling and a new bodyshell building. Future upgrades will include upgrades to the assembly area and new equipment. A further €400 million will be invested into powertrain factories
