Since yesterday electric vehicles in Madrid may use freely public parking lots in the Spanish capital. This is a measure that has the objective to promote and to incentivate people to buy and drive this kind of vehicles.
Madrid’s mayor Ruiz-Gallardón is confident that soon enough electric vehicles will start being seen in the centre of the city, and to create all the necessary conditions, 280 charging stations for this type of vehicle will be built.
Another measure that will be taken by the regional government is to change law in order to allow any citizen to install a charger in his garage space without needing the approval of the majority to do so.
The mayor of Madrid also wants that, until the end of the year, the entire fleet of the city’s official vehicles to be powered by electricity. This fleet already counts with 46 electric cars.
Ruiz-Gallardón says, “I have no doubt that soon, the use of the electric vehicle in the centre of big cities will rise. Besides, I’m willing to fulfill the European directives in terms of air quality.”
