cars to North America for the first times in the brand's history. The Yaris models in North America had previously been built in Japan.

The move to European accomplishes two things. First, it decreases free production capacity at Toyota's Valenciennes, France, factory. Second, Toyota says that a new, unannounced model will begin production on the Japanese production line that previously made the Yaris for export.

Toyota exports about 25,000 Yaris cars a year to North America, which will take up about 10% of the French factory's capacity. It invested €10 million in the French factory to be able to build the North American version of the Yaris. The first cars will be exported on May 19.

The North American cars come with a 1.5-liter engine an automatic transmission that are different from other markets.
