for plans to close the Aulnay factory in 2014 and cut 8,000 jobs. The government has hired an investigator to decide whether the cuts at Peugeot were necessary.
If the investigator decides that the cuts were unnecessary, the government has not said what actions it will take against PSA. Both the investigator and French Industry Minister Arnaud Montebourg have met with PSA Chairman Thierry Peugeot to discuss the cuts. The French government will announce its decision in a report on September 11.
"The study is part of a normal procedure that the government takes in such a case. The financial reasons behind the restructuring plan and its necessity are already apparent as PSA is a publicly traded company," said a Peugeot spokesperson.
Montebourg has said that the government should protect French jobs.
PSA lost €700 million in the first half of this year.
