The Golf 4Motion gets a new all-wheel drive system

A few months after introducing the front-wheel drive, seventh generation Golf, Volkswagen is ready to debut the all-wheel drive 4Motion Golf with a fifth generation Haldex all-wheel drive system.

The latest all-wheel drive system gives all of the traction of previous models but is 1.4kg lighter (3lbs).

The latest car is also 15% more fuel efficient than the previous generation. It will be available in three trim levels - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The engine options include two diesel engines with either 104hp or 148hp. The 104hp version consumes an average of 4.5l/100km (52mpg US), and the 148hp version consumes 4.7l/100km (50mpg US). Both engines come standard with stop/start.

All versions also include front and rear electronic differential locks and automatic collision braking. Inside, all buyers get air conditioning, front and rear electric windows, a multi-function display and touchscreen display.

The 4Motion Golf will only be available as a four-door for more. The cars will be priced at €1,800 more than the front-wheel drive version of the Golf.

Other than the all-wheel drive system, the 4Motion is identical to the standard Golf and has all of the same equipment available.
