Homemade Flintstones Car Banned from Roads in Germany

The Flintstones car may lack speed, but it is still an automotive icon

It is always inspiring when someone builds a car from scratch on their own. A German man did just that by building a complete working replica of the car from the cartoon The Flintstones at his home. However, the German police do not necessarily find the feat so inspirational.

Sebastian Trager built a full-scale working replica of Fred Flintstone’s car with a wooden frame attached to a Volkswagen PoloPoloVolkswagen PoloGermany, 1975 > present6 series

chassis. Drivers do not have to peddle to pick up speed; instead the car has a 1.3 liter engine hidden in the front that powers the front axle.

Trager attempted to get the car registered to drive on public roads in Germany, but he was denied because the authorities ruled the car as unsafe.

"We copied every last detail. I work in car construction and love working with cars so it is perfectly safe. But when we got the registration form section about the number of lights, windscreen washers and wipers, well, we don't even have a windscreen so we gave up. Instead we trailer it to shows and exhibitions for people to see and everyone seems to love it," said Trager.
