Hyundai Bringing Modified, Turbocharged Veloster at Sema

The Hyundai Veloster is the company's answer to small not-quite-hot hatches like the Mini Cooper and CRZ. Its unique design decision was to put a single door on the driver's side and two doors on the passenger side. While this could come off looking like a deformed mess, because the rear passenger door has its handle hidden in the C-pillar, the entire design looks quite cohesive. The Veloster sells for $17,300 in the US and comes with a 138hp, 1.6 liter four-cylinder.

Hyundai plans for future more performance-oriented versions of the Veloster, including a turbocharged version. To show off its new model, Hyundai gave a Veloster to Ark Performance Inc. to modify into a better track car.

The major upgrade to Ark's Veloster is a twin-scroll turbocharger that brings total power up to 210hp. To be clear this is not the same as the rumored future turbocharged Veloster. Ark wanted to improve power quickly, and a turbocharger was the quikest way to do it. This includes adding an intercooler, oil cooler, downpipes and exhaust.

Ark also added larger, six-pot brakes, a roll cage, coilovers and sway bar upgrades to the Veloster.

The exterior of the Ark Veloster gets a full wide body kit and custom headlights and tail lights.

The Ark Veloster was not just about adding performance. It also did some work on the interior for comfort. Everything from the dashboard to the doors and headliner have been covered in Alcantara. Ark also added amps, speakers and a subwoofer to improve the audio quality.

The Ark Performance Inc. Veloster will be shown at the SEMA Show from November 1-4, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
