Jaguar confirms C-X75 hybrid supercar will be built

Jaguar has announced confirmation that the C-X75 hybrid supercar - which was revealed in concept form at last year’s Paris Motor Show - will go into production.  

The green monster will make use of an internal combustion engine (which Jaguar will only say is of small capacity and highly-boosted) and an electric motor on each axle for some astonishing figures. 0-60mph is said to take less than 3 seconds, 0-100mph less than 6 seconds, and the top speed will be over 200mph while retaining emissions of less than 99g/km CO₂. The C-X75 will also feature four-wheel-drive and a range of over 50 km when running solely on electric power. Fuel consumption figures have not been released.      

For the first time ever, Jaguar has also collaborated with Williams F1 on the development of the C-X75 who provided expertise on ‘aerodynamics, carbon composite manufacture and hybrid technologies.’   

Sir Frank Williams, Chairman of Williams F1, said: “Our new association with Jaguar Land Rover provides us with an exciting opportunity to work with one of the motoring world’s most famous and iconic brands. Williams has always considered itself an engineering company and so this project will allow us to combine our technical expertise to create something truly exceptional.”

The C-X75’s design will remain virtually identical to the initial concept with a lightweight chssis made of carbon-fibre. As Jaguar’s Director of Design, Ian Callum, modestly explains: “We were always determined that the Jaguar C-X75 would be as striking on the road as it was in concept form. This will be the finest looking and most innovative Jaguar ever produced. Even in the world of supercars, we can still produce the most beautiful.”   

Only 250 C-X75’s will be built and will go on sale for somewhere between £700,000 and £900,000 depending on the market. The only sale date has not yet been announced.
