Japanese companies join to promote electric mobility

Companies from Japan, from the automotive, energy and engineering areas, have joined strengths in order to spread the use of electric car technologies. 

Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Fuji Heavy Industries and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) are now participating in the development of the CHAdeMO Association that has the objective to increase the installation of quick-chargers worldwide and to develop a standardised charge system for all electric cars.

Toyota is the latest participant as Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors, Fuji Heavy Industries, and TEPCO had already started a preparatory committee for the new association, last August. These five companies are the executive members of the Association that was yesterday formely created and will be expecting the collaboration of 158 business entities and government bodies including 20 foreign companies.

The main objective of this association is to 158 business entities and government bodies including 20 foreign companies are expected as a way to contribute for the reduction of CO2 emissions in the transportation sector. This contribution will be made through the technical improvements of quick chargers, standardisation activities of charging methods, international extension of knowledge and the preparation of cities around the world for the retail of electric cars.

The ‘CHAdeMO’ name is also a trade name of quick charging method that the association is proposing globally as an industry standard. The logo of the Association shows a combination of the circuit symbol to represent ‘Charge’, and a dynamic curving line designed to represent ‘Move’.
