The car is already good for 950hp from its hybrid V12 in a vehicle that ways 1,255kg (2,767lb)

LaFerrari chief designer Flavio Manzoni says that Ferrari has begun working on an even higher performance version of the LaFerrari that would be built in a limited run, possibly 10 or fewer. Power would go up and weight would be aimed at 1,000kg (2,205lb). The price for what would be the ultimate Ferrari would also be several million Euros.

“When we were producing the original design proposals for LaFerrari, there was one proposal that I thought was especially beautiful. So we decided to keep that one back for something truly special in the future," said Manzoni.

Maserati has its own plans for the LaFerrari and is considering using its chassis and a non-hybrid version of its V12 for its own super car by 2015.

“It is always the right time for a halo car. The focus for us at the moment is on the ramp-up for sales growth, but there is an opportunity," said Maserati CEO Harald Wester.

The politics among Fiat's high performance divisions would probably not allow the Maserati super car to be faster than the LaFerrari. It would be a way for Ferrari to build more LaFerraris, which are already sold out, without affecting the car's rarity.
