We might be living in a golden age for car movies. Last year, Ryan Gosling starred in Drive, which was a throw back to gritty movies of the 70s. Ron Howard's Rush about Niki Lauda's 1976 season will be coming later this year or early next year. Now, Martin Scorcese is producing a film called Silver Ghost that will chronicle the history of Rolls-RoyceRolls-RoyceUnited Kingdom, 1904 > present31 models

and its founders.
The film's plot follows Lord John Douglas-Scott Montagu, Charles Rolls and Henry Royce as they found Rolls-Royce. Montagu was a member of Parliament and arguably Britain's first auto enthusiast. He was a member of the Road Board, created registration plates and created a magazine called "The Car". He was also the first person to drive a car on the House of Commons and gave King Edward VII his first ride in a car.
Montagu was also an early patron of Rolls-Royce. His mistress, Eleanor Thornton, was the inspiration for the Spirit of Ecstasy, Rolls-Royce's hood ornament.
"When I read the story of ‘Silver Ghost', I was mesmerized. I immediately thought this is a picture that has to be made. I didn't hesitate for a moment," said Scorcese.
There is no definitive word on casting just yet, but rumor has it that Christian Bale is considering the role of Lord Montagu.
The film is still in pre-production, and most films take three months to film plus more time to edit. It does not look like we'll be seeing Silver Ghost this year but perhaps next fall.
