will supply electric motors, transmissions, and electric components to customer teams for the new FIA Formula E series starting in 2014. The cars' chassis, design and assembly will be done by Spark Racing Technology.

The Formula E has its inaugural season in 2014 and plans to race on street courses in major cities. The series has confirmed a race in 2014 in Rio and is in negotiations with Miami, Monaco and race organizers in India. It is hoping to have 10, two-car teams on the starting grid for the first year.

The series already has one other confirmed car builder - Formulec. Its current car, the EF01, is pictured in the gallery, but it is already developing the EF02 that would race in Formula E.

“I’m a passionate believer in the role that motorsport can play in showcasing and spearheading the development of future technologies, and regard the Formula E concept as an exciting innovation for global motorsport," said McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh.
