has posted May sales up 4% and up 8.4% worldwide compared to last year. Mercedes has also taken the mantle as the largest premium brand in the US and Germany. It sold 113,136 cars in May and has sold 531,382 so far this year.
“The record sales in May show that our new models are being excellently received by customers across all segments. The best example for this is the new B-Class. Sales for this model series have been at record levels both in May and year-to-date. We are on track to meet our target of selling more vehicles in 2012 than ever before in a single year and therefore to grow stronger than the market," said Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President of sales and marketing for Mercedes.
Mercedes leads the United States and Germany as the largest premium automaker. It sold 19.2% more cars in May in the United States, 22,215 car, and up 17.8% for the year, 106,364 car. In Germany, Mercedes is up 6.5% for the year, selling 102,567 cars.
All of Western Europe combined it up 2.8% for the year.
Sales in China are still growing but not as strong as before. Sales for May were up 0.8% to 16,529 cars. However, for the year sales are up 8.7% to 82,534 cars.
The real growth appears to have moved to Russia where sales are up 30% for the year.
The one major loss for Mercedes in May was from the SmartsmartGermany, 1994 > present13 models

brand that saw sales fall 6.9% worldwide. However, it is still up 3.4% for the year.
