Monaco interruption handles victory to Vettel

Sebastian Vettel continues to dominate the action in F1 this season as the world reigning champion won his first Monaco GP of the career and increased his leadership in the championship up to almost 60 points. The Monte Carlo circuit produced a chaotic race which ended up being stopped with six laps to go after a crash involving Vitaly Petrov at the Swimming Pool.

After a mid-race safety car in which Vettel didn't opt to make an exchange of tyres, the German would go on to run 56 laps on the same super soft set of tyres, against all prediction. With this strategy we would take away the leadership from Jenson Button.

Then when the red flags came out towards the end of the race he was allowed to chabge tyres without losing his position as he then lead from Alonso and Button, who had got down to third just before a mid-race safety car.

When the race restarted he cruised to victory with a 1.1 second advantage over Alonso, who was clear from Button by the same margin.

With six laps to go, the race was entering a sprint with three men fighting for top-position and another three driver group fighting for 4th place. But then an accident was triggered when Pastor Maldonado overtook Adrian Sutil at Tabac.

With a one-stop strategy Sutil was running on old tyres and dropping down places and as he was exiting the corner he smacked into it puncturing his right-rear tyre. Then, as he was trying to avoid the Force India of Sutil, Petrov hit the back of ALguersuari would then hit the rear of Hamilton's McLaren.

Both Alguersuari and Petrov hit the wall heavily forcing the race to stop with just six laps to go as Petrov required medical assistance.

Having been as low as 14th in the standings after a 15-second stop as Red Bull pitted him on the same lap as Vettel, Mark Webber managed to climb up to 4th spot. With fresher tyres towards the end of the race, Webber was able to overtake Kobayashi Sutil, Petrov and Maldonado within the final 15 laps.

Sauber and Kamui Kobayashi had lots of reasons to celebrate at the end of the race as the Japanese handed the best result of the season to the team and also collected his best result of the career. Known as an expert in Monaco, Maldonado looked clear to finish in sixth but he would crashed out of the race at Ste. Devote with five laps to go after contact with Lewis Hamilton.

With a damaged rear wing, Lewis Hamilton would finish in sixth with mechanics fixing the wing during the red flag period with tape, and with a very frustrating race. He would finish the race ahead of Sutil, Heidfled, Barrichello and Buemi.
