New Polo GTI unveiled

Volkswagen has revealed the details of the new Polo GTI. The new GTI returns equipped with a new 1.4-litre TSI engine that maintains the traditional standards of the range’s dynamic performance.

The four cylinder engine, with petrol direct injection plus turbo and supercharging, has a maximum output of 180 PS, at 6200 rpm, and a maximum torque of 250 Nm maintained from 2000 rpm up to 4500 rpm. The new GTI model accelerates from a standing position to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 229km/h.

According to Volkswagen the new Polo GTI will be the lowest emitting and most efficient GTI of all times. It should have a fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres, representing CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.

The new Polo GTI features a standard 7-speed DSG. This direct shift gearbox combines the sportive and economic characteristics of a manual shift with the simplifying operation of the automatic. The new GTI also features the XDS electronic transverse differential lock, which improves handling through fast curves.

Available in 3-door and 5-door versions, the new Polo GTI will reach the German market in May and will progressively be introduced in the European and Japanese market.
