Nissan Developing Faster Charging

A major probelm with electric cars is charging them. It takes minutes to refuel an internal combustion engine, but recharging an electric vehicle from empty is still in the hours right now. Nissan is trying to change this at least in Europe. 

Nissan is working with European power companies to develop better faster, public charging. 

First, it wants to make quick charging stations available to the public and ensure the stations cost less than 10,000 Euro. 

Second, it wants to be available for drivers to be able to charge the Leaf to 80% in less than 30 minutes at a quick charging station. 

Both of these initiavies will make the Leaf more driver-friendly. No more range anxiety and, Nissan hopes, more people willing to buy the car. 

Nissan has a good argument for this initiave. Quick charging stations are relatively easy to install compared to a gas station. They hook into the available powergrid, and gasoline does not have to sit in tanks buried underground. If automakers can develop charging systems and batteries that can charge faster, electric cars could take hold.
