Nissan Global Sales Up 13.6% for April

sales were up 13.6% in April, and it sold 364,173 cars worldwide making it the best April in Nissan's history. Nissan also had very good production in April with global production up 49% and selling 369,522 worldwide.

The global sales picture does not tell the whole story, though. Sales in Europe were down 8.8% to 49,078 cars compared to last year, and sales in the US were down 0.3% to 71,329. Sales in so-called emerging markets is where Nissan saw its real gains. Combined sales in Brazil, India, Indonesia and Thailand were up 27.5% to 66,509 cars. Chinese sales were up 18.3% to 112,365 cars. Japan also helped Nissan global sales significantly. It is its largest market and sales were up 9.5% to 324,760 cars. 

Japanese production was up 94% to 85,734 cars, and Nissan claims that it has finally rebounded from the tsunami last summer.
