GT Academy has brought us talented drivers like Lucas Ordonez and Jordan Tresson, but both of those drivers come from Europe. For the second year, North America will get its own GT Academy champion. It will be broadcast weekly on SpikeTV and MTV2 and will be on Nissan's Youtube channel a day after broadcast.
The North American drivers in the GT Academy went through the same online competition as the drivers in the European region. The fastest 32 were sent to San Diego Comic-Con to compete in more virtual events over two days to decide the fastest 16 drivers. They were sent to SIlverstone to decide who would win the GT Academy and were tutored by famous drivers like Danny Sullivan and Boris Said.
The winning driver will stay in the UK to get his or her international racing license.
"GT Academy is a program that we are really pleased to be a part of. It reinforces our values of excitement, innovation and performance above all else, while giving 16 people the opportunity to fulfill their dreams," said said Jon Brancheau, Vice President of Marketing, Nissan North America.
The first episode will be broadcast on SpikeTV on November 1 at 11:30pm Eastern. All the subsequent episodes will be on MTV2 each Thursday at the same time. The show will also have an interactive element online at GTAcademy.us that lets viewers see driver comparisons, maps and other data on a tablet, computer or smart phone.
Nissan says that 400,000 drivers in North America competed the online GT Academy events.
