Nissan Qashqai Getting Cleaner, Upgraded Diesel Engine

Despite being nearly unpronounceable the Nissan Qashqai is getting cleaner, more powerful engines this year.

First the previous 2.0dCi diesel is out and is being replaced by the 1.6dCi. The new engine has start/stop technology with emissions at 119g/km of CO2. This engine is also available with a CVT transmission, and optional Around View Monitor that mounts cameras around the car to improve visibility.

The 1.6 dCi produces 130hp, 20 less than the out-going 2.0dCi, but torque is exactly the same at 320Nm. Top speed is 190km/h, and it accelerates to 100km/h in 10.3 seconds. Fuel consumption is nearly a quarter better. The 1.6 dCi uses 4.5l/100km whereas the 2.0 dCi used 5.9l/100km. Emissions are even down 36g/km of CO2 over the 2.0 dCi.

The 1.6 dCi will be available on the 2012 Qashqai. Nissan did not say if there would be any change in price due to the engine change.

The name sucks, but it looks better than any crossover the U.S has. With those engines, must be fuel efficient.
