Motorsport? His final act for Mercedes is taking responsibility for all of the failings of the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team this season.

"This was a decision made after the last race. We had a report in Stuttgart and we reached a mutual agreement that we split. I take the responsibility for not having been successful enough in three years.

"There is no bad feeling between the board and I. We are splitting amicably and we have found a good solution for both sides," said Haug to Autosport.

According to Haug, the team struggled for two major reasons. The team switched to a 60% scale wind tunnel in the middle of the season, and the team could not spend as much as it wanted because of the Resource Restriction Agreement.

"Even if I don't build the car, I am in charge. And if I was responsible for the victory in China, I also have to be responsible for everything else that happened," said Haug.

Haug's has not future plans now that he has left Mercedes. He will continue to do a limited amount of work at Mercedes through the first quarter of the year and after that he has nothing planned. Haug's biggest plans in the near future are to go skiing

"I have no thoughts on what I will do - but things will settle down," said Haug.

Haug says that he has no idea who his replacement will be.
