Nurburgring Memory Lane

Nurburgring Memory Lane

Last year the German Grand Prix took place at Hockenheim, now, in 2011, the F1 championship is coming back to Nordschleife circuit of Nürburing where many F1 Grand Prix have taken place before.

So here are some video memories of some past F1 seasons.

What better way to remember F1 Grand Prix in Nurburgring than with one of the greatest drivers of all time: Juan Manuel Fangio. Here is a video of the great Fangio back in 1956.

And how was the ring back then? Check out this video with onboard images from the Ring back in 1967. Excellent quality.

  • Laps:15
  • Lenght:22835 m
  • Weather:dry

Podium:

  • 1Denny Hulme
  • 2Jack Brabham
  • 3Chris Amon

Back then these guys needed a sense of humour and people used to say: "The faster you drive round the Ring the less you know and maybe that's the best thing to do". Here is a video that shows some great moments of ten years of F1 at the Nurburgring.

In those ten F1 seasons from '67-'76 ten (10!) drivers crashed to death during race weekends and two drivers died during testing.

If that happened in today's F1the circuit would have been banned already.

Want to know how was the coverage of F1 in 1975? Here is a 44 minute video of higlights from that year's German Grand Prix, at Nurburgring.

That year Carlos Reutemann, in a Brahbham-Ford won ahead of Jacques Laffite and Austria's Niki Lauda. Clay Regazzoni set the fastest lap of the race at 7:06.4 on lap 7

Other impressive crashes on the ring

Horrible crash during the second race of GTMasters at Nurburgring. The video shows a BMW Alpina wallbanging the barriers at the cocacola chicane. The car just went flying into the wall.

Another crash that might go in to the group of most impressive ones in 2011. This one took place at this year's Nürburgring 24 Hours Race.
