UPDATE: Images added of the Astra GTC at Frankfurt Motor Show, 14.09.2011
The International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, might not be until September 15, but Opel has already revealed photos of a car it plans to showcase there. The Opel Astra GTC highlights the sportiness of the Astra range.
The GTC will be available with three possible engines, one diesel- and three gasoline-powered. The two-liter, four-cylinder diesel with start/stop technology makes 165 hp and uses 4.9l/100km. The 1.4 liter, four-cylinder petrol engine comes in two available states of tune – one making 120 hp and the other making 140 hp. The 1.4 liter versions also come with start/stop technology. Finally, the largest petrol engine is a 1.6 liter four-cylinder that makes 160 hp.
Opel is touting the revised suspension found on the new GTC. All of the models come with its HiPerStrut system, which is also found on the Opel Insignia OPC. Opel claims the system improves grip and reduces torque steer.
For the interior the GTC has been improved with an electronic parking brake, which Opel claims, along with other improvements, increase storage volume 50% over the previous Astra. The car comes standard with sport seats and has an optional Alcantara and Nappa leather interior.
The GTC will be available for orders on June 7, 2011 with prices starting at €21,750 for the base 1.4 liter car and topping out at €27,855 for the diesel-powered version.
Opel is already promising an even power powerful OPC version for 2012.
