. Development of future PSA models could also be done at the Rüsselsheim development center, and Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke says that no jobs will be lost there.

Stracke issued a 10-point plan to get the company back towards profitability. The plan includes introducing the Mokka compact SUV and Adam sub-compact later this year. Opel also has four other models that it will introduce later in the year. The Adam will be built at the Eisenach, Germany, factory. Within the next 18 months, Opel has three new engine families coming including a new, cleaner 1.6l turbo four-cylinder. Stracke's plan also includes reducing manufacturing costs to increase profits and build the next Astra in three shifts at two factories. In fact, according to his plan, in the future all Opel plants will run in three shifts even if that means fewer factories produce each model. Each new Astra plant will also get a €300 million investment in improvements

Opel also wants expand sales in Australia, South America, North Africa, China and Russia.

"It is not a cost-cutting plan at all. It is much rather a comprehensive plan to quickly improve profitability, irrespective of if and how much the market is going to pick up steam. The plan will allow us to significantly increase our margins, market share and sales," said Stracke.
