Formula 1 teams at the Spanish Grand Prix attempted a variety of strategies to save tires. Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher made it to the final qualifying round and then parked their cars to conserve tires. Pirelli is predicting that teams will utilize a variety of strategies again at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.
"You would have to guess it is going to be pretty exciting. It is a track that needs good traction, and we are going with soft and super soft – which are two very good compounds for those types of conditions," said Pirelli Motorsports Director Paul Hembery.
Hembery expects Lotus to perform well because of the team's good traction in slow corners in Bahrain.
Last year, the Monaco Grand Prix was led by Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button who all had a different tire strategy. Hembery does not expect such extreme variation among the top teams this year but believes that there will definitely be experimentation.
