It’s F1 weekend again and after a thrilling Monaco GP the Formula One circus now moves to the American continent, to the city of Montreal in Canada. On the seventh round of the 2011 season all eyes should be directed to McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
After a controversial race in Monaco for the Brit he made some comments on the stewards’ work which got him lots of critics from newspapers and many observers, Hamilton will definitely want to clear his image.
And the Canadian GP may possibly be the right place to do it. For the Brit this circuit is some sort of talisman. It was here that he won his first ever F1 race, on his sixth race of the career. And over the last four years, with three races taking place here, Hamilton has been on pole in all of them and has won twice. So it might well be a turning point for him this season. For him and for his team.
McLaren has been consistently improving from race to race and is now closer, if not at the same race pace as the RB7 from Red Bull. Last year McLaren interrupted the streak of Red Bull pole positions in Canada. Can they do it yet again?
The controversy around Hamilton comments will be the center of attention in Montreal but everyone will be hoping to see someone who can fight against Vettel’s dominance, giving the championship at least a two-man fight.
Pirelli tyres once again will have something to say when it comes to final results. With the Bridgestone tyres last season most of the teams opted for two or three stops, when in most of tracks they lasted for half of the race with only one visit to the pits. Now with the Pirelli tyres, with its high degradation level let’s see what will happen.
The Montreal circuit is a heavy one on the brakes and on the tyres because of the long straights which end in tight chicanes. Drivers are able to reach very high speeds on the straights but also have to apply greater pressure to the brakes when they reach a corner.
It will definitely be one more exciting weekend of the 2011 Formula One season.
And if you think you know who might be the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix you definitely have to participate on Autoviva’s F1 Competition. It’s simple, just go here and cast your prediction by leaving a comment.
