The Toyota Prius is not exactly known as a sports car. It is relatively slow, has numb steering and is generally tuned to be very easy and forgiving to drive. However, Toyota is dipping its toe in the green performance waters with the new Plus package for the Prius.
The Plus package does not add any power to the car but aims to improve handling and give the Prius a slightly sportier look. It includes 17in wheels, lowering springs from Toyota Racing Development (TRD), which lower the car 1.1 inches in the front and 1.3 inches in the rear, TRD rear sway bar and ground effects kit.
While none of these improvements change the Prius's straight line acceleration, they should make it a more engaging car to drive.
Offered only in the US for now, the package costs $3,699 for Prius Two, Three and Four models and $2,999 on the Prius Five. Ordering begins July, 2011.
