Mobiliz is a new initiative by Renault to provide mobility to impoverished people. For now, the project is isolated to France.

Mobiliz is based on three points - getting impoverished people mobile, helping them stay mobile and investing in future mobility.

The first part of the plan involves just getting the poor on the road. It will be run by the Voiture & Co Organization, which already supplies these services. There are over 8 million people living under the poverty line in France and lack of mobility is the number four reason that prevents people from getting a job. Renault Mobiliz will consult with people on their mobility needs. Then, it will suggest to them carpooling services, micro-community transport, €5-a-day car rental and helping people get a driving permit. Voiture & Co has successfully helped 52% of its clients find a job.

The other part of this plan is to help impoverished people who already have a car keep it on the road. Renault and participating garages will perform service at a reduced rate to keep these people mobile.

MOBILIZ Invest s.a.s has been created to provide loans for companies that are developing mobility solutions for the poor. Profits will be reinvested into the company instead of paid as dividends.

Finally, Renault will become a partner in “Enterprise and Poverty” Social Business Chair that brings business, government and charities together in France to discuss the future solutions.

I think Ghosn needed to polish hi images, after emerging as the best paid CEO of the CAC40 when automotive industries and jobs are not doing so well. But eh, if it really helps others, I am all for it...
