The new platform bucks the trend of modern small cars with a rear engine and rear-wheel drive. It can be used for multiple wheelbase lengths and tracks for future vehicles. DaimlerDaimlerGermany, 1889 > present12 models

and Renault claim that it is significantly safer than the previous chassis for either car. For greater pedestrian safety, the cars have a more defined hood and more upright windshield.
For the Fortwo, it is the same length as the current car, but it is 100mm wider than the current car for more interior room and better high-speed stability.
The engine for all three cars will be a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 70hp in naturally aspirated form or 85hp when turbocharged. It will use either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. No diesel engine is planned, but an electric version will come later.
