Sports Tourer joins the new Astra family

Opel is introducing its new Astra Sports Tourer that will be joining the already successful new generation of the five-door hatchback. The new compact wagon from the Russelsheim brand should build on the sales success of its sibling that has received 160,000 orders in the first six months since its launch.

The Astra Sports Tourer borrows its name from the larger Insignia but also the same Opel design DNA. Its look is combined with a large boot area that has been conceived with an efficient design that raises load space up to 1,550 liters.

The new Sports Tourwer features new Opel technologic innovations which include the adaptive mechatronic FlexRide chassis, the AFL+ adaptive forward lighting, the ergonomic front seating systems and the Opel Eye front view camera system that recognizes traffic signs and warns drivers when they inadvertently depart from their lane.

The Opel Astra Sports Tourer will be available with an engine line-up that includes eight gasoline and diesel engines which deliver power between 95 and 180 hp.

On of the newcoming engines is the 1.4-liter turbo gasoline unit that has maximum power output of 120 hp ans is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission. The 103 kW/140 hp version of the 1.4 Turbo engine can now also be fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission.

At the top of the diesel line-up stands the 2.0 CDTI engine with 118 kW/ 160 hp, which is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox and has a maximum torqe of 380 Nm. This engine delivers a fuel consumption of 5.1 l/100 km and emits 134 g of CO2 for kilometer.

As it will happen across the whole Astra lineup, the new Sports Tourer will soon be available with the Start/Stop technology. The first version to be fitted with it will be the new ecoFLEX variant with the 1.3 CDTI engine delivering 70 kW/95 hp.

Designed and developed at Opel’s International Technical Design Center in Rüsselsheim, the new Astra Sports Tourer wil be built at the company’s production plant in Ellesmere Port, United Kingdom. The world premiere is set to take place at the Paris Motor Show in October, with saes starting in November.
