Subaru Creates 20 Minute Documentary on BRZ Development

Subaru engineers focused on moving the engine as far back as possible and keeping the center of gravity low on the BRZ

The Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S will be on sale very soon in the US, and they are already available in Japan. To commemorate the construction of its first sports car ever, Subaru has created a 21.5 minute documentary looking every aspect of the car's development.

The first look examines the car's development starting from a concept stage of using a Boxer engine in an expensive sports coupe to create a car that handled well with a low center of gravity. It then moves to the body designer to discuss how that came to be. He says that platform attempts to balance driving control with ride comfort. The engineers make it seem that the car's entire development was guided by getting the center gravity as low as possble, and the engine as far back as possible to make it handle and ride better. Lowering the engine means the hood can be lower that gives the driver better visibility, which means they can sit lower.

The second film focuses more on the BRZ's actual dynamics starting with its stability control system with five modes. It also shows the BRZ in cold weather testing, and it shows the development car that was housed in a Impreza sedanImpreza Gen.3Subaru Impreza Gen.3Japan, 2007 > 2011116 versions
