Susie Wolf has been racing since 1996

The Williams Formula 1 Team has a new, female development driver named Susie Wolff. Wolff has competed in karts and in the DTM series for the last seven years.

“Susie is a talented, successful and highly professional racing driver who competes in one of the world’s most fiercely-contested racing series. Susie will join Williams as a Development Driver, in which capacity she will assist us with the development of our simulator and other technical challenges. Susie will also undertake some aerodynamic testing of the FW34 and a full track test in the coming months. I should add that, as Susie is married to Toto Wolff, a Director of Williams, her appointment was carefully considered and then approved by the Board, with Toto recusing himself from the process,” said Team Principal Frank Williams.

Wolff began her racing career in 1996 winning the British Women Kart Driver of the Year award. In 1997, she was the champion of two Scottish karting championships. In 2001, she moved to Formula Renault and stayed in the series until 2004 taking third place in points that year. She has been racing in the DTM since 2006. She has struggled in the series winning points in only the 2010 season. However, she has never had modern equipment in the series and had to use a 2008-spec car even in 2011.

Marussia also has a female test driver named Maria de Villota.
