has decided to leave the American market effective immediately. What remains on dealer lots will be the final Suzuki automobiles sold in the US. The decision has no effect on Suzuki's motorcycles, ATVs or marine products in the US. American Suzuki Motor Corporation, which is the company's US importer, will also declare chapter 11 bankruptcy that will allow it to remain in business while paying creditors.
As US law stipulates, Suzuki will still honor the warrantee for its vehicles. However, no new vehicles will be imported to the US, and after the current supply is gone, there will be no new cars.
American Suzuki says that some current dealers will transition into offering only parts and service, and other dealers will be closed. However, the process that just begun for Suzuki and the dealer network to decide what will happen, and it does not have any announcements yet.
The company has set up a web site to help owners and dealers and answer their questions.
We contacted Suzuki about whether these plans also affect Canada and are awaiting a reply. There is no mention of Canada in any of the releases by Suzuki.
Honestly, this announcement is not exactly a surprise. Suzuki only sells about 2,000 vehicles a month in the US and has relatively few dealers compared to its competitors.
