but still maintains its short front and rear overhangs. The 4 Series sets itself apart with the gills behind the front wheel arches, which are meant to clean the car aerodynamically and improve economy, and relatively flat rear section.
The top is a three-piece folding hardtop that includes soundproofing and a noise-absorbing headliner for more comfortable closed-roof driving. When the trunk is opened while the roof is open, it pivots forward to allow greater access to the cargo area. It takes 20 seconds to fold or close and can be operated at up to 11mph (18km/h)
The interior is nearly identical to the standard 4 Series coupe. The seats feature scalloped rears to give passengers in the back more legroom than the previous model. They also have integrated electrically adjustable seatbelts to save room. Front neck warmers incorporated into the seats are also an option. The convertible also gets two-tone trim on the door panels and side panels, which is meant to give a nautical style.
The car will launch in Europe as the 435i Convertible with 302hp (306ps) and 295lb-ft (400Nm) of torque, 428i Convertible with 241hp (245ps) and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque or 420d Convertible with 181hp (184ps) and 280lb-ft (380Nm). All of them come with start/stop as standard. A six-speed manual is standard on all of them, but an eight-speed automatic or eight-speed Sports automatic are also optional with any engine. The Sports version allows for manual shifting with steering wheel-mounted paddles.
In the spring of 2014 all-wheel drive will be available on the 428i Convertible.
The 4 Series Convertible will be offered in three trim levels – Sport Line, Modern Line and Luxury Line. The M Sport package can also be added to any model in addition to the trim levels. Other options include a head-up display, Professional navigation system, LED high beam headlights and adaptive cruise control.
the 4 Series Convertible will be at dealerships in Europe in March 2014, and the 420d Convertible has a base price of €46.300, including 19% German VAT.
