Audi is bringing the SQ5 sport SUV to the United States, Canada and China, but they will be getting their own special, petrol version of the car. Unlike the diesel SQ5 available in Europe with 313hp and 479lb-ft of torque, the version for the rest of the world will use Audi's 3.0 TFSI engine with 354hp and 347lb-ft of torque.
The RS5 Cabriolet takes the roof off the RS5 powered by a 4.2-liter V8 with 450hp with an 8,250rpm redline. It takes 4.9 seconds to get to 60 with a 174mph top speed. The roof is an insulated cloth top that takes up just 2.12ft³ of the 13.42ft³ trunk.The top takes 15 seconds to open and 17 seconds to close and works at up to 30mph.
The 2014 R8's major upgrade is a seven-speed DSG transmission that sheds 0.3 seconds off of the 0-60mph time on the top R8 V10 Plus to 3.3 seconds. Slower models will see a lower increase in performance from the new transmission. Power remains the same with 430hp for the standard R8 V8, 525hp for the R8 V10 and 550hp for the R8 V10 Plus.
For a brand so identified with off-roading, it is surprising that Jeep has never really used many diesels at least in the US. That will change in a big way at the North American International Auto Show when the brand will unveil a diesel version of its top of the line Grand Cherokee. After the NAIAS reveal, the truck will go on sale in the first quarter of 2013.
Honda is reportedly planning on revealing the production version of the next generation Acura NSX at the North American International Auto Show on January 14 and 15. Acura revealed the concept for its new sports car at the show last year, and it will be built just a few hours south in Marysville, Ohio.
Bentley's big reveal for NAIAS is the Continental GT Speed Convertible. Mechanically it is absolutely identical to the standard GT Speed. It uses a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine with 616hp and 590lb-ft of torque, and eight-speed gearbox, stiffened and lowered suspension, re-tuned power steering and all-wheel drive.
Maserati will be unveiling the sixth generation Quattroporte at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 14. The car will keep its high performance credentials with a new V8 that will be built at the Ferrari factory in Maranello. It says that the new engines will have more power and better economy than the previous generation of engines.
Hyundai is showing the HCD-14 Genesis concept, imagining the next Genesis. The front of the car is quite flat with a broad, chrome grill with smaller, chrome air inlets to either side. The headlights are nearly as flat at the front of the car and are made up of five, gilled lenses. The rest of the car is much more aerodynamic with a long arc from the windshield to the trunk.
The Paceman is the latest MINI to get the John Cooper Works treatment, and it will be revealed at the North American International Motor Show on January 14 and 15 and go on sale worldwide in March. The new car packs the same 218ps and 207lb-ft, 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with all-wheel drive as the Countryman as well.
Infiniti is teasing its first car using its new naming scheme - the Q50. The car will replace the G sedan in the brand's lineup. The 30-second video focuses on the cars headlights, which appear to be using at least two LED elements.
Toyota unveiled the Furia Concept at Detroit giving an insight on the design of the best-selling model of all time's next generation, the Corolla, marketed in Europe as Auris. The concept represents a design study created by Toyota designers and incorporates the priority given to the development of vehicles with a more dramatic and expressive design.
Cadillac will reveal the range-extended, production ELR at the North American International Auto Show during its press conference on January 15. The ELR is the Cadillac version of the Chevrolet Volt. Cadillac has hinted that it might have some technological upgrades over the Volt like a larger battery pack, but they will be built in the same factory.
Being unveiled at NAIAS the Concept 4 Series clearly takes the F30 3 Series as a starting place but with a pointier nose, swooping roof and a more rounded rear. The nose is low with a small grill and squinting headlights. The exterior is accented with aluminum trim. The future 4 Series will be the first model to bear BMW's new naming scheme.
BMW keeps adding M models. The latest to wear the letter is the M6 Gran Coupe that shares a twin-turbo V8 with the M6 coupe and M6 Convertible. The engine is the same 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 with stop/start that makes 560hp and 502lb-ft of torque from the M5 and M6 with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and limited-slip differential.
The refreshed Z4 has a redesigned bumper with sharper angles, updated interior and new entry-level model. It gets three new exterior colors, a new Hyper Orange package, new 17in and 18in wheel designs, standard xenon headlights with LED rings around the lights and LED turn signals. It also includes a new sDrive 18i version with 156hp.
BMW will also show two special edition versions of the 1 Series at NAIAS called the Limited Edition Lifestyle versions. The cars are based on the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible. Both get exclusive Mineral White metallic paint, 18in wheels, brown leather interior and wood trim.
Mercedes is revelaing the full facelifted E-Class range at NAIAS, including the sedan, estate, coupé, cabriolet and AMG versions.
Mercedes has announced its new car lineup for the North American International Auto Show on January 14 which includes the CLA world debut. The CLA is based on the third-generation A-Class, but instead of a five-door hatchback, it has a four-door coupe bodystyle. In Europe, it will probably share engines with the A-Class.
In a very odd move, Lexus has released a gallery of images of the new, generation IS that will be revealed at the North American International Auto Show on January 15. However, it has revealed nothing about the specs of the car other than the vehicle's infotainment system. Lexus says that the car will go on sale in the summer.
At NAIAS Chevrolet will be unveiling the all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 full-size pickup. Among the updates for 2014 are a new trio of EcoTec3 engines; a stronger, quieter, more comfortable cab; revised steering, suspension and brakes; solutions for managing cargo in the bed and truck capability for towing and hauling.
The Silverado's sibling, the GMC Sierra is also being unveiled at NAIAS. Both trucks share a platform, engines, suspension, brakes and some production locations. All that separates them is the exterior and interior styling. The Sierra is meant to be a more work-ready truck.
Nissan took the cover off its Resonance Concept SUV that is rumored to show the direction for the next generation Murano. Nissan says that the design of the car was inspired by the scientific advancement in materials, which gives the car a very fluid, organic look.
This year, Shelby American is bringing several new kits to NAIA Sthe upgraded 850hp GT500 Super Snake. New for this year will be wide body kits for the standard Mustang, Shelby GTS and GT500 Super Snake. The wide body kits are available for the front and rear allow buyers to fit tires up to 14in wide thanks to the widened fenders.
Acura will be revealing the concept for the next generation MDX SUV called the MDX Prototype at the North American International Auto Show. The brand says that the car will show the brand's new design language that it calls "Aero Sculpture."
Chevrolet unveiled the new generation of the Corvette and brought back one of the brand's most iconic names, the Stingray. According to the American automaker, the Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard version ever to be fitted with the new 6.2 V8 LT1 engine with 450hp and 610Nm of torque. The Corvette Stingray coupe will go on sale in the third trimester of 2013.
Lincoln is ready to enter the SUV market. The brand will unveil its new MKC concept in Detroit, this is a predecessor for a following production version with the same name. the MKC is based on the Ford Escape but receives a different exterior design and a more refined interior.
Volkswagen has just revealed a new concept in Detroit for a future seven-seat SUV model for the U.S. market, the CrossBlue Concept. The concept will come in 2015 and is part of VW's strategy to increase sales in the United States and Canada.
Audi is the latest German automaker to enter into the super four-door coupe game and the RS7 Sportback is the latest contender. Power comes from the twin-turbocharged 4.0 TFSI V8 with 560hp and 516.29lb-ft of torque. The RS7 Sportback can get to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 189mph with limited top speed at 173mph.
