Two new G-Class special editions

Mercedes has revealed details about two new special edition models of its outgoing G-Class off-roader which feature lavish amounts of stainless steel and chrome.

The first, which is known as the ‘BA3 Final Edition’, is based off the short-wheelbase model of the G-Class wagon and will be available in two variants. The G 350 BlueTEC model features a 155 kW, 540 Nm 6-cylinder diesel engine, while the G 500 model features a 285 kW, 530 Nm 5.5 litre V8. Both will feature permanent all-wheel-drive, a seven-speed automatic gearbox, 4ETS traction control, ESP and three differential locks.

The BA3’s exterior has received extensive AMG styling with upgraded flared wheel arches and a 3-louvre, chrome-tinted radiator grille. Other standard features are 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels, an electric sliding/tilting sunroof, metallic paintwork, running boards and a spare wheel cover with a 3D Mercedes-Benz star in stainless steel. Interior upgrades include ambient lighting, multicontour front seats with seat climatisation, chrome gear lever highlights, a chrome luggage compartment and burr walnut wood trim.

The second new special edition is known as the ‘Edition Select’ and is based on the long-wheelbase G 500 Station Wagon. It receives exclusive two-tone paintwork in choices of designo mystic white, palladium silver metallic, thulite red metallic and obsidian black metallic. AMG has also had their way with the Edition Select by adding obsidian black side flaps and exterior mirrors, as well as a sports exhaust. Other perks include running boards, black-painted 18-inch alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design and a stainless steel spare wheel cover with 3D Mercedes star.

The Edition Select’s interior is kitted-out with two-tone black/porcelain upholstery, ambient lighting and a chrome package trimming the gear lever, seat adjustment controls, front door speakers and luggage compartment. Black leather and black piano lacquer wood trim fill the rest of the inside, while a 450 watt, 12-speaker Harmon Kardon surround sound system is standard.

Prices for the ‘BA3 Final Edition’ models will be € 90,511.40 for the G 350BlueTEC and € 100,685.90 for the G 500, while the ‘Edition Select’ package will add € 6735.40 to the price of the long-wheelbase G 500 Station Wagon.

I'd like to watch it go off road. It's weird, a luxury SUV and a sport utility vehicle. That's like making a Suit for chopping wood.

Yeah, I know it first hand from off-road guys that this brute is capable of the most unimaginable stunts when it comes to climbing "walls".

Are they rich? When they say, "walls", do they mean speedbumps?

Yes, they are filthy rich. And no, by "walls" I mean very high mountains for which you'll have to take oxygen masks to survive.
