Some great news has just come through for Vauxhall Insignia VXR owners who have been experiencing the frustration of the car cutting out once it reaches 155mph; the manufacturer has just announced a new de-restricting package which allows the VXR to continue on to achieve 170mph.
The VXR’s ‘Unlimited’ option, which Vauxhall say ‘exploit its all-wheel-drive chassis dynamics to the full’, turns the Insignia VXR into the fastest Vauxhall currently available. In addition, owners who opt for the package will receive a blue Brembo logo on the front brake calipers and a redesigned speedo and tachometer to distinguish them from the plebeian restricted VXR.
To ensure the safety and durability of de-restricting the VXR, Vauxhall put prototypes of the vehicle through a 10,000 km validation program at the Nurbürgring’s Nordschleife. This program corresponds to 180,000 kilometres on normal roads.
Stuart Harris, Vauxhall’s Group Product Manager, said of the option: “For those owners who enjoy driving on the continent, the Unlimited option lets them experience the Insignia VXR’s true top speed, combined with the peerless stability and secure handling that only an all-wheel-drive chassis can offer.”
The Unlimited option is available now on both manual and auto models in Hatch, Saloon and Sports Tourer body styles at Vauxhall dealers for £250.
